New Orleans

Winter dances around my nose as the faint remembrance of pine needles rises from the musky asphalt beneath my feet. Walking some where between rampart and Toulouse. A brisk walk to loose myself in my thoughts.

Moisture all around me as I walk the old streets of New Orleans. It’s in my eyes as well. The blessings I’ve missed in the beauty have been way too many.

The smell of cigarette smoke and whiskey rise to meet me faster than the panhandlers I’ve begin to appreciate in my time here. Something of a local now, my gate doesn’t increase as I feel one approaching swiftly to my rear. Instead I turn and I let my spirit tell me if I have “any spare change.” Out of love and not fear.

There is life here. Amongst all the heartache and death. There an abundance of life—something you can’t feel anyplace else. Some stories taller than the deserted hospital where I was born. And some more real than the blisters on the souls of both my feet. Being comfortable shoes if you’re going to visit New Orleans. You’re going to need them. Some will be asking for charity, others might give you a show, and some you’ll know make 6figures a year doing what they do on these roads.

New Orleans is home in a way. And in others it may never be. Regardless I’m happy to always take a little of her with me But more importantly, to give a little to her from me.

  1. I like the realism, I like to smell the dampness on brick roads and birthday cakes served at a friends child birthday party story, to hear the background noise coming from trafic, construction, nature, birds and the bees, I want to feel the sun just lie the author did while walking down an old dirt road, to feel the pain coming from blisters on his feet,

when the apple hit him in the head he said “I love you apple” he took a bite, the crisp crunching noise with the spray of apple juice makes me thirsty…

  2. Now just do this every day, 3 times if you want or need.
    Bravo.
Love seeing you from a different view. You will find a style that will define you you become a writer and like finger prints no two are alike
